Servant Leadership @ Leadership University
======================================================
Hi,
I like to begin with something I feel is exciting about
leadership; the ability for one person to catalyze the
shift in others to promote performance, productivity and
well-being-—to serve:
The Leadership Qualities That Create a Winner
By ARI KIEV
Published: January 25, 2004 NYTIMES
The Article is about Isaiah Thomas as NY Knicks GM
Here is an excerpt:
What is the strategy?
Demand accountability and get your people to commit to the
results.
Build momentum.
Keep looking for what is missing or what has dropped out
of your strategy.
Make a diagnosis.
Assess strengths and weaknesses.
Find the right people.
Build on their strengths.
Pair people in a mentoring relationship.
Constantly review your strategy.
Don't be caught up in daily events;
focus on executing the plan.
This week's business: CALL for SERVANT LEADERSHIP:
I'm putting out a call for Servant Leaders for LeadU.
There are several schools that are forming and each needs
some dedicated servant leaders. The servant leader
position at LeadU supports the vision/visionary of a
particular school. This is high-potential position that
requires an investment of $5000 and can be financed. There
are several reasons why this position requires buy-in on
multiple levels. We're serious about creating opportunity
at LeadU for visionary and servant leaders. These two
positions reside at the top of the hierarchy of our
leadership and compensation system.
Previously, we've requested visionary proposals and
received several of those. If you're interested in
promoting a legacy of your own utilizing the power,
accountability, authority and responsibility of the
Leadership University System, we're interested in hearing
from you and receiving a visionary proposal. These are
ongoing and I anticipate working to find 36 dedicated
visionaries to lead a variety of schools in LeadU.
However, at this time, I'm actively soliciting servant
leadership positions.
Some schools will operate without visionaries as we search
for the right vision and person to lead, but some schools
are forming now and it is important to get people into the
servant positions. The $5000 position can be financed, so
don't shy away from the position if you see yourself as
working at this level.
As you know, the visionary retains the right to hire and
fire the servant and if the servant is for some reason
asked to leave, the investment is repaid to them at time
of departure, so nothing is risked in terms of losing your
investment, plus you would have been received indirect
referral commissions along the way that are yours to keep!
The reason that you might want to become a servant is
varied.
1. To work with a vision to teach, support, lead and
affiliate with other leaders at this prestigious level in
LeadU could be a reason.
2. To receive a larger share of income distribution in the
school.
Since all visionary and servant leaders are also founding
members, they receive a *double-dip* into the revenue
stream generated by our indirect compensation of $250 per
person joining a school.
Becoming a servant leader exposes you to the public and
enhances your ability to receive direct referrals. While
the intensity of the involvement in the system increases
as one would expect at the servant/visionary level, so
does the opportunity to attract more clients, energy and
money to your practice.
If you're interested in becoming a servant leader, I'll be
conducting an information call next Friday at 10 AM ET at
865-362-4050 at PIN 1251# to answer your questions. If you
don't want to wait until then drop me a note at coach@leadwise.com.
I'll leave you with Robert Greenleaf's definition of a
servant leader:
What is Servant-Leadership?
Servant-Leadership is a practical philosophy which
supports people who choose to serve first, and then lead
as a way of expanding service to individuals and
institutions. Servant-leaders may or may not hold formal
leadership positions. Servant-leadership encourages
collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the
ethical use of power and empowerment.
Robert Greenleaf, the man who coined the phrase, described
servant-leadership in this way.
"The servant-leader is servant first. It begins with the
natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.
Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. He or
she is sharply different from the person who is leader
first, perhaps because of the need to assuage an unusual
power drive or to acquire material possessions. For such
it will be a later choice to serve - after leadership is
established. The leader-first and the servant-first are
two extreme types. Between them there are shadings and
blends that are part of the infinite variety of human
nature.
The difference manifest itself in the care taken by the
servant-first to make sure that other people's highest
priority needs are being served. The best test, and
difficult to administer, is: do those served grow as
persons; do they, while being served, become healthier,
wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to
become servants? And, what is the effect on the least
privileged in society; will they benefit, or, at least,
will they not be further deprived?"
Taken from the Servant as Leader published by Robert
Greenleaf in 1970.
It's amazing in some ways, 1970 is the year I graduated
from High School. However, at the time I never heard of
the concept. At this point, the paradigm of servant
leadership is critical to Leadership University and most
people haven’t heard of us.
If you are interested in becoming a servant leader for any
one of the following schools, I'd like to talk with you
about the position:
School of Developmental Coaching
Resilience
Leadership Studies
Integral Leadership Development
Integral Humanities
Advanced Communication Dynamics
Integral Business Development
Integral Health & Wellness
Developmentalism
Marketing Leadership
and of course any school that you would like to support.
There are a number of proposed schools located here:
http://www.leadu.com/levels/1.htm
I look forward to your application, which is an essay on
why you would make an excellent candidate for servant
leadership for one of the above or suggested schools.
These positions are not permanent and if at a later date
your preference changed, you could, if the position were
available, your performance high--move to that position
that might be created in the future. There would be no
additional fee to be paid and of course all servants and
visionaries retain their founding level position
permanently.
A review of some of the discussion around the philosophy
and strategy of LeadU regarding these elements is located
at http://www.leadu.com/audio.
PLEASE KEEP THIS MATERIAL INSIDE THE COMMUNITY AT THIS
TIME AS THESE POSITIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO ANYONE
OUTSIDE OF B\COACH AT THIS TIME.
While there is no guarantee being made around compensation
for these upper level positions, as a servant or
visionary, you become eligible for double-dipping into the
compensation system created through the proposed
compensation program.
We have very aggressive goals, very lucrative revenue
sharing and a great business model that makes referring
easy. There is no reason not to expect regular and ample
flows of income to be shared by productive and successful
visionary and servant leaders. Over time, these positions
can be sold to others for amounts over your investment as
long as the person purchasing the position is approved by
me and the visionary--making this a coveted, yet integral
business opportunity.
I've taken a great deal of time and effort to weave this
business model in all directions through an integral lens
and we're serious about surpassing the existence needs of
our visionary and servant leaders to free them to pursue
their visions.
Thanks for being here, each week grows more exciting!

Call for Affiliate Leadership Servant Leader in the school
of Marketing Leadership
This is the position of affiliate servant leader in the
School of Marketing (red attention stream).
You would advance affiliate training for LeadU or for that
matter any affiliate program and hold weekly calls to help
people learn how to use affiliate marketing.
In exchange for your service, I will waive the $5000 fee
for this servant position as long as you agree to teach
affiliate marketing for 1 hr a week for approximately 1
year. You would need to be able to answer questions about
how to affiliate market with LeadU and B\Coach products
and to oversee it being taught when you could not, for a
period of one year. After that time, oversight of the
program by this servant would be sufficient, getting
others to teach and administer the weekly program. No
classes would be taught from Dec 15 to Jan 15 each year.
During that time, you would continue to grow our affiliate
training program with new classes on affiliate marketing.
You would work under me as visionary and with others in
the school of marketing in the sub schools such as:
Affiliate marketing
Database Marketing
Network Marketing
Joint Venture Marketing
Advertising and promotion
Spiral marketing
These are the proposed six servant streams that will make
up the school of Marketing Leadership in LeadU
Please contact Mike directly at coach@leadwise if you are
interested in this Servant Leadership position.
