The Final Word: Coaching and Enlightenment

First I want to say that I am not in a position through enlightenment or experience to be offering advice to anyone. Yet, I would like to state a position. As I dove into this project years ago, discovering layer after layer of complexity, I became confused with all of the models, concepts and protocols of leadership and coaching. Fortunately for me, after a time, the confusion settled and I began to see patterns and threads of commonality among the various models.

It seemed the more I studied the more evidence the research provided. As I put into practice many of the methods you have read about in this book over time, a few things have surfaced and became clear. Coaching in one form or another is about enlightenment. If I would be permitted to define enlightenment as becoming aware, then coaching is about becoming aware.

Coaching to and from enlightenment

There is a lot to me that is unclear, but what has become clear is that all of us are provided through nature and nurture--uniquely reinforced--a set of default values. Without getting too spooky, I have begun to see evidence of a common thread--discussed for centuries by various spiritual leaders all leading to the same place.

As the coaching interaction takes place, there are many possibilities, the most important of which is awareness.

.awareness of who we are and are not.

.awareness of our purpose.

.awareness of our limitations and how all of those open a door to realizing competence--effortlessly.

.awareness of the essential common thread of all human beings. The indisputable force that lies within all of us for well-being.

Yes, life is confusing and mixed up at times-too fast and too complex-and we make it so. Wo/man's search for meaning is a cacophony of doing and yet in the silence between our thoughts lies the peace and well-being that has always been there-a friend has helped me realize this dream.

Coaching is about enlightenment, for each of us a different view, a different tune, perhaps a different life, yet in those unique differences lies a common thread of well-being. It is ours to find, ours to explore and ours to nurture. Coaching in all of its methods, technologies and mystery provides a process for the co-creating and emergence of that which has always been.

I don't know your answers as the journey is yours.

However, if you will take to heart the principles and practices in this book, wherever you are, whatever language you speak, your journey will be one of significance. We can not control what happens to us, yet we have the awesome power to decide our attitude about it. Life is what you make it. We have the power to create that which is around us for the kingdom is GOD is among us-we have in the final end...choice.

I hope that something in this book has helped you to imagine the future that you dream of, will inspire you to take action, help you innovate your own coaching methodology and integrate it into your life and organization. However YOU will have to initiate action to become that which you desire.
