1-Minute Dailies: Series I
Day 9
Assessments

As I said in Daily 8 (D8-I): SELF-KNOWLEDGE, starts with some kind of an assessment, the “more the merrier” for the curious… just don’t lose yourself in analysis, and invest time unwisely!

What will come from this portfolio is an emergent core.

Remember the drawing back in D3-I: NL?

All of those, non-linear things going on in a VUCA world get filtered through your core lens.

[Damasio, one of my favorites, spoke about this drawing I made of his lecture, you can see and listen to how all this stimuli gets into, or is kept out of our cognition.]

Assessment is both a shortcut to a lifetime of discovery with feedback and more DENSITY and FREQUENCY emerging from your core SK; and the means which to benefit from SURPRISE and INNOVATION.

I’ve been at this assessment jazz since grad school in the 80s (late bloomer:) and more specifically buckling down in the 90s when I taught it to my kids and significant others — they being the ones to see the uncoloured pages of your core SK — it’s not always pretty.

Assessment and Feedback is like making good baloney or “good bull” as they say at my alma mater TAMU, home of the Fightin’ Texas Aggies… where else would a US Marine go to college;)… it’s hard to watch all the things that go into the making of good baloney;)

It’s just not easy to watch being made,

Mike R. Jay, Developmentalist
