1-Minute Dailies: Series I
Day 10
Bias
Now is as good as anytime to introduce BIAS.
In Day 9-I: Assessment, I discussed getting your SK Core Portfolio (SKCP) going.
And I also reminded you of the sometimes off-taste that those assessments can give as affect.
And that’s where BIAS comes in.
Everyone has BIAS.
You can’t escape your own, or the bias errors you and others make.
[Although you can shift the SUBJECT:OBJECT ratio a lot with SK Deep Work and emergent SELF-AWARENESS, but we need to save that for later, lets plow through these basics.]
BIAS is one of the constructs of LeaderW@RE DYNAMICS; the others being: CAPABILITY, STYLE, LEVEL, ROLE, VALUES, and SYSTEM DYNAMICS (a la Dr. Jay Forrester).
Everything about leader development I’ve found so far drops into one of those buckets including these values constructs BEING, DOING, HAVING, BECOMING, and CONTRIBUTION as they emerge through COLLABORATION.
Having said that mouthful, I’ll unpack that all over time because it all emerges out of Core SK Bias, and we need all those tools in leader development.
Assessment doesn’t yield truth!
It is a short cut to building your DENSITY and FREQUENCY of Self-Knowledge, which “tends” to improve SELF-AWARENESS, in my experience*.
Don’t believe everything you read, however, study and explore what assessment tells you about yourself and others.
Invest in assessment, it’s worth more than you know,
Mike R. Jay, Developmentalist
*I’m not sure if another developmentalist would go out on a limb with me on this, but the potential for self-awareness is wired in. What experience has taught me, is that we seldom use all the self-awareness potential we have, and that’s where an emphasis on self-knowledge paves the way for whatever potential for self-awareness, we have to be actualized in leader work.
