Day 0
SELF-AWARENESS

WELCOME to Series II.

This series focuses on the topic of Self-Awareness.

I might as well drop the bomb on you from the get-go.

While neuroscience has drawn a lot of attention to neuroplasticity and a variety of other important adaptive components making up our triune brains — the likelihood that the potential for self-awareness is uniquely hardwired into each of us, is very high.

Defining self-awareness from Wikipedia:
Self-awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals.

It is not to be confused with consciousness in the sense of qualia. While consciousness is being aware of one’s environment and body and lifestyle, self-awareness is the recognition of that awareness.

Self-awareness is how an individual consciously knows and understands their own character, feelings, motives, and desires.

There are two broad categories of self-awareness: internal self-awareness and external self-awareness.”

While most of Blank Slate (BS) would want us to believe… that we can be whatever we put our minds to; other than a very special few, the rest of us are less adaptive, less flexible, and less plastic than BS suggests.

There is good news, so join me in the next daily for how I have framed self-awareness after coaching 100s of people for 1000s of hours in more than 45 countries.

Take heart in the potential you do have!
