Development for Leaders
Series II
1-Minute Daily
Day 15
EGO POSITION
One of the most fascinating and frustrating things in adult development is what I term ego position.
The reason I settled on that name for ego complexity which has been operationalized by Drs. Jane Loevinger and Susanne Cook-Greuter is to reinforce the idea of being able to map these developmental trajectories.
Developmentalists inherently make maps, tables, and comparisons with other models. In my own research, I found that people don’t always fall into the neat categories developmentalists would have you believe; in fact, they almost never do if my sample can be generalized as I’ve done.
In this regard, seeing, feeling, and knowing someone is at different levels is a very powerful tool for SK and SA because coherence and lack of, is probably something that confuses people more than anything else.
Just understanding that we may be in different positions regarding multiple developmental streams can be of great service in our SKSA work.
Believe it or not, coherence builds trust and lack of trust causes people to subconsciously hold back trust.
If you’re a leader, then that should mean something to you.
