Series II
1-Minute Daily
Day 8
Developmental Design

Some may have noticed I am puzzling together a logic, pattern, and/or design to a developmental path that I have seen work in my experience.

In these dailies, there lies within tools, terminology, and an ontology which increase the tension created by self-knowledge and self-awareness — they are a circular reference — chicken and egg dilemma.

One from the east might say a path to knowledge with the dharma of self-knowledge and the karma of self-awareness in tension.

For leaders, it takes — these days — one mistake to start a path of resistance, which if not quickly recognized and regulated begins a process which can lead to derailment… its Shakespearean!

Remember the survey?

A survey of 75 members of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council, for example, has rated self-awareness as the most important competency for leaders to develop.

Any developmental design must have at its beginning and end, self-awareness.

My developmental logic reveals that the potential for self-awareness lies in the same realm as our potential for any variety of hardwired probabilities.

Around 2004, I was in India visiting students and clients and a favorite scheme of my students was to challenge me with every guru they could. One of my favorites was a “cigar salesman” (even gurus need a trade;) Sri Nisargadatta Mahara, whose dialogues are represented in a book called I AM THAT, available free online.

One of his disciples held regular sessions in his home and I was escorted there — somewhere I had a recording — to appear as the hot seat guest. The takeaway from my experience was nothing I could remember except a book I saw in the waiting room table by or about Sri Ramana Maharshi. As I thumbed through it, I noticed a treatise on Self-knowledge… this stuck deep into me as my developmental journey was accelerating… a proverbial sliver in my mind.

The premise of liberation which I do not seek with myself or clients is the purpose of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi and his theory and practice of Self-Enquiry, which I have not studied.

However, the benefits of self-Knowledge as it leads to increasing applied self-awareness is my developmental logic and design.
