Development for Leaders

1-Minute Daily Microcasts
Day 8
[LI] Density & Frequency
I use these terms probably more than people are accustomed.
Here’s why.
Density accounts for the number of ways that something can be formulated whether it’s thought, emotions or behaviors.
Frequency matters because it how often those formulations are used.
In developmental scaling of behaviors we look at Density & Frequency (D&F) in order to scale behavior in terms of complexity and/or success.
It’s related to quality (density) and quantity (frequency).
If someone behaves well in single case versus someone who behaves that way in multiple cases, then it’s likely that the person in multiple cases has more ways to use well behaviors in different situations or conditions more frequently than the other using well behavior in a single case.
Research showed that usually these more complex behaviors because of density and frequency led to higher levels of performance and success.
So when I discuss D&F I’m referring essentially to the idea of in what ways does a person use a similar behavior (consideration as an example) and how often do they display those related behaviors, thoughts or emotions.
In the case of LI, we want to practice differentiating those skills in different adaptive ways more frequently as RightACTION, so to speak — not always relying on a single skill or skills used in the same ways always or at the same times.
Our idea is to use the skills as practices with the theory constructs to more efficiently and flexibly help people have lives using their ITEAM… wherever they are.
