‘Sooner or later, different scares people.’ – quote from The Accountant

Mechanics:
(Meta) Where THE DISS fits into metasystematic relations as the paradigm shifts: “…from a path of consumption toward a generative path of purpose…”.
“Questioning” (Inquiry is the indirect version which I prefer) has become an anathema to society… as most of us know about society today!
Inquiry: Is it (1) purposeful; (2) feasible; (3) monetizable, et al, to facilitate at the metasystematic level a set of strategies whose tactics focus on the OPPOSITE of consumerism and its growth Culture, Conditions, and Requirements (CCR)?

One of the most influential works which has influenced me and the LeadU Way is:
Theory in Practice: Increasing professional effectiveness
by Argyris and Schön. [First Edition (January 1, 1974)]
Talking Points:
- Theories-in-Use vs. Espoused Theories
- Difference between what individuals claim and what they actually do in practice.
- Importance of aligning these to enhance credibility and effectiveness.*
- The Ladder of Inference
- A model illustrating how individuals move from observable data to actions.
- Highlights how perceptions and assumptions influence decisions and behaviors.
- The Double-Loop Learning Model
- Distinguishing between single-loop learning (making minor adjustments) and double-loop learning (rethinking underlying assumptions).
- Encourages critical thinking and adaptability.
- Reflective Practice
- Continuous self-assessment and questioning of one’s own methods.
- Enhances personal development and organizational improvement.
- Barriers to Effective Learning
- Identifying and overcoming mental models and defensive routines that impede genuine learning.
- The Role of Organizational Culture
- How organizational norms and values impact the application of theories-in-use.
- Fostering an environment that encourages open dialogue and learning.
- Professional Development
- Strategies for cultivating skills to align theory with practice.
- Emphasizing lifelong learning and adaptability in professional settings.
- Case Studies and Real-World Applications
- Examples illustrating the application of these concepts in various professional fields.
- Learning from practical experiences to refine theories-in-use.
*In my work I introduced a third theory pertaining to espoused and use or “theory in action.” This may seem like splitting hairs but for me this theory tends to speak to an area in the Johari Window of “what we don’t know we don’t know” and it helps speak to theories which we are as of yet unaware of which are clearly in operation — a blind spot maybe or a theory that someone present would notice running.

Example:
Espoused Theory: I’m open & Listen
Theory in Use: I tend to cut people off
Theory in Action: I’m completely unaware that people can see my blind spots.

Q&A:
“Lessons of History” by Will and Ariel Durant is a profound work that distills some of the key themes and takeaways from the authors’ extensive study of history. It offers insights into the patterns and dynamics that have shaped human civilization across various eras. Here’s a summary:
- Human Nature: The Durants emphasize the constancy of human nature. Despite the advancement of societies, basic human instincts and desires remain the same. Patterns of behavior, such as competition for resources and power, continue to influence historical developments.
- Economic Forces: Economics is a decisive factor in history. Wealth distribution, class struggles, and economic systems shape the direction of societies. The authors argue that economic needs often drive politics and war, highlighting the material basis of historical change.
- War and Peace: Conflict is an inherent part of human societies. War, often driven by economic and territorial ambitions, precipitates significant change. The Durants suggest that peace is usually temporary and fragile, often punctuated by periods of violence.
- Religion and Morality: Religion plays a crucial role in moral and social stability. It provides ethical frameworks and influences cultural evolution. However, the authors note that as societies become more secular, science and reason begin to replace religion as moral guides.
- Government and Liberty: The tension between liberty and order is a persistent theme. Governments arise to maintain order but often at the cost of individual freedoms. The Durants advocate for balanced governance that preserves both liberty and stability.
- Evolution of Civilization: Civilizations rise and fall, reflecting both internal strengths and external pressures. Cultural, political, and technological advancements are essential for a civilization’s longevity, but decadence and complacency often lead to decline.
- Lessons on Progress: Progress is not linear and often comes with unintended consequences. Technological advancements can lead to both improvements and challenges, such as environmental degradation and social disparities.
- Interplay of Great People and Masses: While individuals can influence history, the broader social, economic, and cultural contexts often determine outcomes. Great leaders emerge in response to existing conditions and are often products of their time.
- Understanding History to Shape the Future: The Durants argue for learning from history to guide future actions. Understanding historical patterns helps civilizations avoid past mistakes and craft thoughtful policies.
- Cultural Exchange: Interaction between civilizations leads to cultural exchange and enrichment. Global connectivity, while bringing challenges, fosters innovation and growth.
