Why Leaders Need Coaching?
In my email you were sent last Friday I mentioned I would share with you the question Juan asked and Mike’s response. Well, after 11 inches of rain in 5 days topped off with strong winds, we lost our electricity and the newsletter did not go out. Life is like that…
After 30 years of coaching, which covered 45 countries and all sorts of coaching work, including coaching to billionaires, Mike has learned much about human nature and how to best assist people in living @F-L-O-W.
Below is Juan’s question and Mike’s reply:

Question: Why Leaders need coaching?
Answer: It’s a really good question, Juan.
This question is much more complex and requires more time to fully do justice to it, but here’s the short answer. 😉
If we recognize that leadership is becoming more and more complex due to the number of variables, we now must deal with any delays between cause and effect because of complexity. Almost ANY Coaching made available to leaders may give increasing returns — some won’t.
Here’s why I say that:
Leaders are developing in 4 dimensions, which I easily remember by using the Acronym VOLT, which means Vertical, Oblique, Lateral complexity is shifting over Time and looks different at any Leader’s AGE, thus VOLTAGE as an acronym really carries a lot of energy for Coaching.
A coach, who can use the 4 Helping Functions: Cuing, Scaffolding, Support, and Lift, gives leaders a real opportunity to begin to understand their own leadership and the conditions they lead in, with a way to describe how awareness of themselves and others plays in the conditions to meet the requirements of the Other*.

*OPPOR+unity, a part of the COACH2 Model means: Openings, Possibilities, Plans, Outcomes and RightACTION + unity — and what leader wouldn’t benefit from an OPPOR+unity discussion. 😉
