It’s May Day
When I travel around the world, most people have never heard of May Day, where in my childhood, children would make May baskets ― boys and girls ― and trying to deliver them to their favorites ― boys and girls ― without being caught!
The rules were:
1. Set the May basket down at the door, knock loudly or ring the doorbell and then run like hell to avoid being caught ― that’s how I like to remember it anyway. 😉
2. If a boy caught you, he gets to slug you on the arm. (Of course, this was before political correctness came).
3. If a girl caught you, or you caught the girl ― a kiss was in order!
So, this valentines on steroids day took place every May Day in our small town.
My first kiss was on May Day. I was 7 and it took me a block and a half to catch her (Sunny Hinman, I’ll never forget you).
Later after traveling the world some, and not being a dedicated student, I realized that May Day was actually associated with ” …a traditional European spring celebration, May Day is a national public holiday in several European countries. The date is currently celebrated specifically as “Labor Day” or “International Workers’ Day” in the majority of countries, including those that don’t traditionally celebrate May Day.” (Wiki)
It’s amazing what we hear when we listen and that brings me to my second reason for writing and that is our upcoming UBER EARS Program which gives you a look into my world of developmental helping, so to speak.
