[ABCs] Z: Learning a PSA

LeadU SK+ L&LI Microcasts:
A daily 1+ minute “conscious” read.

I mentioned in an earlier [ABC: L] ‘cast that each assessment model is emergent as a Problem-Solving Approach or PSA.

It’s also important to point out that SK+INQUIRY is a PSA and functions as a Problem-Solving System or PSS when used with some “density & frequency (D&F).

This approach — because it’s almost always generative: more benefits than costs or risks — is called Generati.

You might think or feel that we have too many PSAs out there to effectively develop a PSS, but we do develop one of our own anyway and it’s always some composite related to our ego position which in an oversimplified way gets it’s “energy and information” from 4 basic centers of influence or social motives as coined by the late David McClelland, PhD.

He wrote a number of seminal books based on his research, but HUMAN MOTIVATION (1987) is where he discussed his research on Social Motives: power, avoidance, achievement and affiliation or pwr, avd, ach, aff; for short.

The reason I bring this up is there are (4!) 24 different PSA combinations. Since there are no pure systems where all 4 elements are the same, there are likely about 20 combinations of social motives each representing a PSA.

The is important because each of the following assessment models puts forward their own constructive PSA elements as well:

  • LSI = 9 styles
  • Strengths = 34 talents
  • Reiss = 16 desires
  • IWAM = 48 patterns
  • Traits = 4 or 5 intensities (Ocean)
  • TKI = 5 modes
  • MBTI = 16 types
  • Enneagram = 9 (Arche) types
  • Archetypes = 12 Jungian types
  • Even Chinese Astrology offers 12 distinct sets of behaviors depicted by animals.
It’s a dizzying array of combinations and why it’s impossible to stereotype people, Reiss 16 desires (16!) = 2+ trillion combinations alone… imagine all the unique combinations from the above list.

So why am I bridging a subject that no one can grok or understand? Is it better to just use one PSA and forget about all the rest?

Ideally, discovering and exploring your own PSA in action leads to a CAPTSEE* PSS Design.

Through the SK+INQUIRY process, certain ideas are going to emerge that can be represented with words and connections.

Over the course of the program you will capture those words and those connections that best describes your ideas of how your own unique PSA emerges into awareness.

This is where the generic design work and the SK+ NAVIGATION builds a rich array of intention, attention, and purpose as a result of our work together.

Let the fun begin!
